Planning a Celebration of Life Service
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.” John 11:25
A Christian funeral is a service of worship held on the occasion of a person’s death. In this service we give thanks and praise to God for the gift of life, seek God’s help in time of need, witness to the hope of the gospel anchored in the resurrection of Christ, remember the life of the deceased, and offer support and comfort to the grieving.
It is our privilege to minister to families during their time of need. Funeral services are conducted by one of the pastors of North Lake and are reserved for members, attendees, and their family members. Please reach out to our church office at (352) 753-8484 or email office@northlakepc.org with any questions or to schedule a service.
Types of services
Sanctuary or Fellowship Hall Funeral/Memorial Service
A funeral or memorial service takes place in our Sanctuary or Fellowship Hall. Remains (casket, ashes) may be present. All caskets must be closed for the funeral service. This service may also include an inurnment in the North Lake Memorial Garden for those who have purchased a niche. The inurnment can precede or follow the funeral/memorial service.

A similar but shorter service that takes place in our Memorial Garden. This is for persons who have a niche in the North Lake Memorial Garden and includes inurnment.
To ask about a niche in the Memorial Garden, call the church office at (352) 753-8484.
Graveside Service
A graveside service is held at the cemetery and includes the burial or inurnment.

Planning the service
Open each topic to read the details. Our office staff and pastors will walk through these with you.
-
Our funeral services are held in the North Lake Sanctuary or Fellowship Hall. Inurnment services are held in our Memorial Garden for those who have a niche. A shorter service can be held in the Memorial Garden alone.
-
The officiant of the service must be one of the pastors of North Lake Presbyterian Church. At the family’s request, and upon approval by the pastoral staff, we may invite another ordained minister to assist.
-
The order of service, as determined by the pastor, includes a greeting and opening prayer, Scripture, a meditation, pastoral prayer, songs or hymns, and a closing prayer.
-
Music helps the congregation give thanks for the faithfulness of God, proclaim the good news of the gospel, and call on the Spirit for help. North Lake is usually able to supply musicians (organist or pianist) and a lead vocalist. Additional fees are required for these musicians. Both traditional hymns and contemporary praise songs are appropriate choices.
-
If requested, there may be a moment in the service for special memories to be shared by family. We ask that you limit it to 2–3 family members, each sharing for 3–5 minutes.
-
All our services in the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall are live streamed on our North Lake YouTube channel, youtube.com/@NorthLakePC. Following the service, the recording will be moved to private, and you will be emailed a link to the video. You will be able to access a recording of the service for 12 months.
-
A table will be set up in the lobby to display any pictures or mementos. A photo loop with a maximum of 100 photos can be presented on the screens before the service. Photos must be on a thumb drive as separate .jpg or .png files, and the drive must be given to the church office two full business days before the service.
-
All arrangements for military honors are the sole responsibility of the family. North Lake must be told about these arrangements when the service is scheduled, and they must be coordinated with our Office Manager.
-
If you would like flowers, please work with a local florist of your choosing. Deliveries should be made on the day of the service, one to two hours before the scheduled start time.
-
Families may arrange for financial gifts to be given to a ministry or mission partner of the church.
-
Our office staff will create a bulletin for the service, and a guest book is also provided. Two of our North Lake Deacons will serve as greeters and ushers for the service.
-
Our Fellowship Hall can be set up for a reception immediately following the service. The church’s food management services can provide food, tablecloths, utensils, and servers. An estimated number of guests is required. If you have special menu requests, please let us know and we can talk with our chef.
Funeral reception fees
Prices are per person. Please give the office an estimated number of guests.
