Meet Joe Hand, new Contemporary Worship leader

Personal:    A New Yorker (Queens) by birth, Joe was raised in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and currently lives with his wife (no children) near Nashville, TN where he has been for the last nine years.

Education:   Joe began his music education at the age of 7 as he learned to master the piano. At age 9 he took up the electric bass guitar and continued to add to his instrumental repetoire at age 11 with the saxaphone and other wind instruments. By age 13, Joe was really getting serious as he undertook the mastery of the classical piano. On the bass guitar Joe became a member of the Florida All-State Jazz Band. His formal music education continued at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where in 1990, he earned a BA degree in Music Production with minors in arranging and performance.

Career:   Joe has a lengthy experience in music ministry dating back to age 9 when he began playing piano in church. In succeeding years he has broadened his music ministry to include classical choirs, modern (contemporary) praise, meditative music, and small group perfomance.

   In the professional arena, Joe is currently a music producer and recording artist. He has produced numerous CDs, working with the best musicians in the Nashville area - and beyond. The list of artists - both secular and religious - includes the likes of Linkin' Park, Waylan Jennings, Muriel Anderson, Barry McGuie, Terry Talbot, Ceili Rain, and even the Princeton NJ Symphony. (One of his productions -Ceili Rain, "Kneeling"- reached the Top 10 on the CHR Charts this past year.)

    Joe has been a professional musician since the age of 15 and has played in nearly every type of musical situation:

  • rock bands
  • vocal ensembles
  • Jazz bands
  • wedding/society bands
  • cruise ship entertainment
  • pit orchestras
  • choirs
  • country music groups
  • symphony orchestra

He also toured extensively as a solo artist and as a musician with John Michael Talbot and Terry Talbot.

   It is with great anticipation we welcome Joe to our midst and pray for God's blessing on his ministry to North Lake.
Except for a prior commitment on May 11 (Mother's Day), Joe is currently "on board" and leading the Contemporay Worship Service at 9:45 each Sunday morning.

CONGREGATIONAL COFFEES

Tuesday, May 13, 7:00 pm
Thursday May 15, 11:00 am
Wednesday, May 21, 2:00 pm

   Through work and prayer in a congregational strategic planning retreat, Session has identified 5 goals for the congregation as we strive to move to meet God's purpose for the North Lake Presbyterian Congregation. These identifiable goals are:

  1. Expand our campus to meet current and future pressing needs;
  2. Help people connect and feel like they belong
  3. Sustain our growth to reach new people and additional generations;
  4. Identify opportunities to meet community needs;
  5. Explore a Deacon ministry

    All coffee sessions will meet in the church library (off the lobby). We urge you to come and vision together with Elders, staff and lay leaders. You input is vital to the dynamics of our mission!

Summer Help Needed!

   This summer the youth of our church have an exciting and busy agenda ahead of them. The activities are all targeted to bring the youth into a close fellowship with each other and to their Savior. Unfortunately, visiting placesand doing lots of things gets expensive. Many of ouryouth can not afford one trip, let alone two. Whether in a small way or a larger way, if you would like to make a donation, you could be an angel in a youth's spiritual journey. Your gift can really make a difference.

   Contributions can be made for special programs in support of the Thornwell Mission Trip, Middle School or High School Montreat, Itchetucknee Camping, or Summer Fun. To learn more about the youth who need scholarships, or specific trips, please contact Holly Reimer.

Bible Study Opportunities

    One of the key practices to becoming sensative to what God is trying to tell us everyday is to study and become familiar with His Word. Through this familiarity, we can "hear" when God speaks to us. There are many varied opportunities to join with others ("exercise" always works better when it is done with others) in studying and becoming familiar with God's Voice.
